ANSWER: In accordance with the high number of customer requests on this topic, STEP is at the core of the DS strategy for data exchange. Being vendor independent, STEP is the only viable and lasting solution. DS is involved with several customer teams to improve STEP “Recommended Practices”.
In 2009, STEP improvements for Importing and Exporting 3D Functional Dimensions & Tolerances (FD&T) have been approved and are now available to customers in V5R20.
This year DS has delivered the support of STEP Composite for pilot programs. If approved by customers this will also be GA soon.
Other areas to extend STEP are under analysis. DS is ready to communicate with customers on their expectations. DS gives special attention to STEP expectations for archiving.
