ANSWER: DS is working on two areas on this topic:
1. Align the STEP V5 and V6 with the certification authorities and customers expectations for archiving. Thanks to the improvement on 3D Dimensioning & Tolerancing, customers can now archive and retrieve all the dimensions and design tolerances which in the past were drawn on 2D drafting. This improvement will save time
and dramatically reduce cost of archiving. Same direction with composites which are more and more included in the Aerospace industry and other industries. This is why DS has also improved STEP in that direction.
2. For viewing, navigation on, and access to STEP archived data, whether the STEP data were stored from V3, V4, V5 or V6, V6 data storage & 3DLive navigation tools provide very powerful tools. DS has made several evaluations with customers sending 100 000 to 400 000 STEP parts within a V6 data base thus providing access to these data with the full power of V5 3DLive navigation tools.
