Product Function Requirement section of the COE forums
Hi,

I think this area needs to be reorganized especially "Manufacturing". I would like to see more sections under Manufacturing forum. Having such sections would enhance the readability of the forum and it would be beneficial to the users.

Take a moment and think of any large assembly file of a plane, ship, etc..
If you drop all the components in one Catproduct then it would be very difficult to read because of thousands of nodes in the product tree.

Thanks

Dave Frank

Hi Samarinder.

Good idea, I agree with you.

These are some sub folders I suggest.

1. From the DPC

2. From the Dassault development manager (Patrick Touron)

3. Bug reporting. ( Not a coe official function, but it still happens)

4. Beta testing.

5. Samarinders important topics ( This is not meant to be a joke. I am serious. SS is a major contributor. For someone that puts in the time he does, for him to then be able to say to programmers, please look at my topics.... (Now if the search actually worked..... when I show all thread by users it is very incomplete) )
6. Resolved  ( The DPC can manage moving threads)

7. Enhancements requiring feedback from programmers. (The DPC can manage moving threads)

8. Oldies but goodies. ( topics that are old, but still are relevant)

9.  Off topic

10 . General discussion.

11. Daves important topics  ( hey why not!)

12. Top ten Issues.
13. Urgent -Emergency. Dassault needs to look at this, pronto

On the other hand, if a less experienced forum user is presented with too many cubbyholes to select where he should best post his queestion, he is more likely to choose the wrong place, or worse, give up.

Hi Rich,

Perhaps links is the answer? I have seen some threads with something like tags at the bottom.
I do not know how to make tags, or use them though.

Is there documentation on tag usage somewhere?

Thanks
Dave

Thanks Dave,

I have some other ideas in mind. I'll post them later.

Basically I am suggesting keep it simple.  A lot of discussions overlap the boundaries of even our broad subject areas, so it is tricky to define where the fences should be.  Our "power users" like you have been great about re-directing folks to existing threads in other areas, and there is a good search tool.

Hi Rich,

I think my idea is very simple and easy to follow. Stay tuned.

I tend to agree with Rich P. Having all the topics rolled into one place allows the viewer to see everything and possibly expose him to areas that he would seldom visit. There is quite a bit of overlap, Jim B. and I are often challenged as how to categorize enhancement requests. The Top Ten is a good idea because Patrick T and his team often view the forum. Maybe it could be called "Hot Topics". Short of changing anything, the best way to identify each thread/topic is to put very descriptive words in the subject line, i.e. Top Ten, Roughing, Macros, etc.

On the subject of bug reporting, the right place to report them is through the DS support website. You'll get the proper attention by submitting SRs (Service Requests) to us. If it is NC related there is a very high probability that I will reach my desk. Contact me if you need more information on this.
