Sketch Circle - Any Way to Change Input to Accept Diameter Rather Than Radius?

Sketch Circle - Any Way to Change Input to Accept Diameter Rather Than Radius?

Is there an option to make the sketch circle function accept a diameter value rather than a radius value?  See the attached picture.

Oh, and I already know I can divide the diameter in half.  I just want to be able to input the full diameter and not change my sketch dimensions around afterward.

Thanks,

Hello Gary,

I couldn't open your image. I understand that you use the [Sketch Tools] toolbar to set the radius of a cicle.

The way I use is as follows:

-Draw the circle at an approximate size.

-Add a dimensional constrain(a dimension) to it.

-Double-click on the added dimensional constraint. The [Constraint Definition] dialog box will appear

-Choose Radius/Diameter option and set the actual value of it.

I hope it helps.

Hey Gel,
Your answer is a work around for what Gary was asking.
In a sketch, when you draw a circle and you tab to the Radius input field in the Sketch Tools toolbar, then typing the size that you want. The circle is made at that size and the dimension is created for you at the same time. The problem is that when you make the circle this way, Catia does not give you the Diameter option, which often what you want. So Gary is then forced to go back and convert his auto-dimension to diameter instead of radius.
What would be nice if you could set the Sketch Tools default to a diameter input, not radius, so we wouldn't have to go back and tweak the dimension after the circle has been created?

Yes, Steven has pegged it.  On top of that it would be nice if you could maintain that one constant size and just keep plunking in circles (with the diameter constraint) as needed.  I know you can do this with the transform function--I just think it would be more efficient to have that option in the sketch circle function itself.

The reason we need this is because we create corebox tooling models that use slotted corebox vents that interface with the cavity surfaces at various heights.  They don't lend themselves to using patterns very well due to those various heights.  With the sketch I'm able to layout the vent size and location in a 2D plane, check for fit/function against the cavity surfaces, and then make the vent's center (they are round) coincident with the circle's center point using 3D constraints.  By making the vents coincident with the circle center point, I can move the circle in the sketch and the vent's solid body moves with it.  The sketch also helps me to verify I used the intended vent size.

Thanks

Hi Gents,

This looks like a really good enhancement. A small graphic user interface modification, that will bring a smile to everyone's faces, after this if implemented.

I sent an email to Rolando Garza, the COE Manager that is in charge of communicating with Dassault....

It is important not to get our hopes up, but this is exactly the kind of thing I think is important to get DS to work on. Not breakthrough technology, but simple time saving PITA removing ER's.

Hello All,

For sure my answer is a work around to Gary's question. Actually it is the method I use to draw circles partly due to the problem under discussion.

Note: Whille waiting DS to enchance CATIA V5, one may write a small app to deploy this....

Yes, this is one of those things we learn to live with until someone like Gary comes along and asks "why? "
I tend to just live with the radius dimensions, wrap them all up in an Equivalent Dimension, and drive it with a formal of a parameter that is my desired diameter. Maybe a little more work...

Thanks Gents,

I use the equivalent dimensions as a way to "quickly" change the values if they are the same.  At least I know for sure what I'm asking isn't possible at this time without having to write a program to do it.

Thanks again,
