Inconsistent results with V4-V5 model conversion

Hello all:

We are getting inconsistent results when comparing the given V4 model to its migrated/converted V5 CATPart. Anybody have had the same situation and if so I would really appreciate if you could share how the issue was resolved.

Here were the steps performed

Using CATIA V5 R20 Service pack 5

  1. Opened the .model file in CATIA V5
  2. Created a blank CATPart
  3. Copy .model and ‘Paste Special – CATIA_SPEC
  4. Saved the file as Name.CATPart
  5. Opened a blank .CATProduct file
  6. Inserted the .model file
  7. Inserted the Name.CATPart file
    1. Parts line up beautifully one on top of the other
    2. No difference at both ends, exactly the same
    3. Coming to the center at a specific location the Outer Mold line is different on the .CATPart
    4. Specific area measures .010 heavy on the converted CATPart as compared to the parent .model file
    5. Same result when the .model is converted using the batch utility to V5

Anybody came across this scenario and have any suggestions?

Thank you all for your help.

On the attached Image
Yellow = .model
Red = .CATPart

Best Regards,
Zac.

Do you still have access to the V4 seat ? If you do try , in the utilities function , Catclean ( I think that was it ).

It cleans the model and it should give you better results.

Yes we still have the seat. Will give that a try. Thank you

Best Regards,
Zac.

Update: Tried that V4 returns with a message that the model is clean !! We tried a few other file conversions and all returned with the same results. Sending out a question to the customer.

Thank you all for your kind replies.

Hi Zac,

A little colder, and they say what is coming will be  hotter and humid.  I got 1/4 inch of snow the 1st few days... that was fun.   I hear they have misquitoes big enough to fight a chicken here. but thankfully have not seen any.

I like the people. No income tax... state at least... and the schools are the suprise... much better and I lived in a pretty expensive area of Cal.... Valencia.   I can buy for cheap what I can sell for a bunch more... house wise.   Gas today  3.45$

I know this is quite a while since you asked the question (just got back on COE recently) but have you tried tweaking the space migration options?

tools + options > general category > compatibility > v4 to v5 space tab:  gap healing, curvature improvement and keep v4 segmentation.
