Local mesh over a region and not on a specific face or edge (structure analysis)?

I have a part in Catia where I have to define a local mesh over a region in Generative Structure Analysis.  I've tried defining a second body on the part to apply a mesh to that, however the octree mesher doesn't recognize it as being a valid support.  Is there a way to define a local mesh over a region on a part without having to define a local mesh just on a face or line?  The part is large enough that selecting a smaller mesh size for the overall part is not feasible.

Essentially I have a complex part where I expect the stresses to change rapidly in one region (hence I want to define a local mesh there), however there isn't a line or face or "valid support" to define the mesh in that region.  For the purposes of this design, I cannot simply define two parts and connect them with a "fastened" connection.

DS put some restriction on meshing, that's why you cannot select a regular Body but only the Main Body.

If you have GSO license, you can create Volumes when you split your solid, you can mesh Volumes.

If you dont have GSO license well...

Hello,

Try to use Sew Surface in Part Design then you can create a new internal face that you can select to apply a local size mesh.

Nicolas is correct to try "SEW Surface".  Basically you'll want to create a surface within shape design. Then in Part Design locate the "sew surface" command (It's with the close surface command).  Be sure to not toggle the "simplify" option on the "sew surface" dialog.

Also, in regards to the above comment on only being able to mesh the main body:  You can mesh ANY BODY not just the main part body.  When you switch from Part Design to GPS, a mesh entity is automatically assigned to the Part Body.  For most cases this is what you want.  However you can manually apply a mesh entity (i.e. tet) to any body or GSD Volume.

Last NOTE:  If you do not have "sew surface" command you might also try to use a GPS/EST "Group by neighborhood.  These are also great  methods to define specific load surfaces too.

Cheers,

Greg

looking back at this post I would like to add the following... you can bypass the DS restriction to mesh several bodies in a CATPart by making each body the mainbody before meshing it...

I've usualy used the trick explained above for local mesh... use SEW surface.
