what is an easy way to integrate a grid into a view in a drawing?

Make it manually with a line and then offset with instances. Don't think there is a way to do it automatically.

What kind of grid?

A grid to indicate zones?

A grid to indicate location coordinates?

A scale grid for a mylar/photo contact master?

Please add some specifics to this question to clarify what you're striving to achieve.

Hello,

see an example for the grid in the attached picture.

Wen need such grid in several different views and different drawings. To make this manually by drawing lines and text is possible but this needs much time.

Talking about V5R30, I see we have a tool set called "Drawing Tools" which has a "Drawing Grid" function. It creates a grid labelled every 100mm. Could not find how to edit the grid size though.

Disclaimer: I'm not in automotive design, so any help I attempt to provide is solely based on scouring the internet.

The video linked shows how to create grids using "Work on Support 3D".  They create them in the "2D Layout for 3D Design" workbench it appears, but I suspect these can be projected into a normal drafting if that's what you need.  Several other forums reference this same method for creating grids used in automotive design.

Hello Filipe,

I can not find the Drawing Tools this in the STANDARD V5 R30.

I with V5 environment do you use this?

Can you publish a picture with this function and an example to this?

Best regards

Hello Kale,

I know this you tube video and they use a 3D Support. I think they have a special license for this.

Do you know which license is needed to work with "2D Layout for 3D Design"?

Hi,

Attached is a picture of where I find the toolbar and the symbol on the toolbar itselft.

Also attached, a quick example of the result aforementioned.

Of course, as CATIA is often customized per customer, I cannot garantee you would have the same option.

Hello Kale,

thank you for the information about the license. We do not have such a license.

Is it possible that you can send me some a picture with an example grid in 3D and a picture with the grid in 2D?

best regards

Reimund,

Did you try to use 2D Component Instance? If you want to show exactly same grid to several views or drawings, simplest way may be creating grid in a 2D Component and instance it to the views and drawings. If you explode it after instance it, you can modify the grid as lines and texts. If you expose it that instanced or copied to other drawing, link (MML link) to the original drawing can be removed.

Also if you uncheck 'pickable' check box on the Properties of the grid (2D Component Instance), the grid cannot be selected. This may be more convenient to work on the view after the grid is added. If you need to select the grid, you can 'force pick mode' for the view or the sheet.

Hello Filipe,

i did find this in the standard CATIA.

It seems that this is a special function in your volvo environment.

Hello  Katsuya Asakawa,

thank you for your information

I know these possibility with the 2D components. if you have serveral different Views with different view directions, you have to modify the letters for  the directions x, y or z and you have to modify the values. for each grid.

So I think it's too much manual work and there's a lot of opportunity for mistakes.

Sorry, I can't. I've never personally created/used a grid like you're needing. Just provided the YouTube video in hopes it yielded some benefit for you. We use Katsu's method for grids.

Hi,

try to search for DRAWNET. I think this is what you need. It is a free tool I found in a german Catia Forum.

Unfortunatly i never get it work on my Workstation because it needs some old libreries (it was written in VB6), but maybe (I hope) it works for you.

best regards.

Hello Madaxe,

thank you for your message with the excel macro.

Is it possible to make the attachment with the source code as a txt-file?

best regards
