Immediate Past President

Mike Clare, Boeing
(First year of three year term)

Mike has 25+ years in the aerospace and defense industry, mostly with The Boeing Company. Currently, he is a systems engineer serving as the senior lead on the Support Technology, Technical Data and Training team within Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T). His duties require conducting research in the areas of global customer support for commercial airlines and the US Government – it is Mike’s job to find or build new technologies that improve fleet maintainability and sustainability for Boeing’s customers. His present assignment is an investigative thrust to exploit using 3D engineering source information within the support environment. In particular, Mike is trying to influence CAD suppliers to offer tools and processes that will support products throughout their lifecycles.

Prior to his work with BR&T, Mike worked as a manufacturing engineer for 14 years in areas such as tool design, NC programming, process planning, process engineering and many years as a CAD/CAM site support lead. Mike has been involved in CAD/DAM since his career started with Grumman Aerospace, initially with 2D CADAM systems, then migrating to 3D using CATIA. He has used DELMIA for 3+ years to support Boeing’s 787 maintainability centers of excellence, as well as ENOVIA LCA. Mike also was the lead/system manager for Boeing when working with Dassault Systemes to develop DMU PI as the low-end viewer of V5 data during the late 90s early 200 (V5R2). These responsibilities required communicating with Dassault product managers on a regular basis to understand the requirements and needs of the user community more completely.

Mike has been an active participant at COE since 1996, giving his first presentation in 1997 entitled, “Elimination of Detail Part Drawings”. Since then, Mike has been a presenter six different times at either COE annual events or COE A&D Workshops. As his COE experience matured, Mike became at PIC chairperson in 2006 when he presented the need for a Service After Sales PIC – he has been growing this community within COE since the PIC was created, as demonstrated by increasing numbers of attendees and people willing to present. For the past year, Mike has participated in event planning as the co-chairperson for the 2010 COE A&D Workshop in Ft. Worth Texas as well as still maintaining his role as SAS Process Chair. Mike has also been a COE ATE presenter and a COE forum monitor. Mike has proven through his actions that COE is truly a year round event.

Mike was instrumental in developing the CATIA Operators of Puget Sound (COPS) Regional User Group and served as a Secretary/Vice President. Due to industry consolidation and other factors, COPS is no longer active.

Because of his extensive research and development work within the CAD environment, Mike is often asked to present at various venues to share his knowledge and experiences across a broad array of topics. Most recently, he presented at the 2010 Dassasult Systemes Customer Conference and the Defense Manufacturing Conference in both 2010 and 2006.
