Ask the Expert: MBD - Characteristic Accountability
June 25, 12-1 p.m. CT
The characterization of Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI) is a critical process step within a part's lifecycle. This step is traditionally performed by humans after the release of engineering data and manually transcribed across manufacturing, quality, and inspection.
The software and standards used to author Model-Based Definition (MBD) continue to mature and support characterization from the native source CAD in the Quality Information Framework (QIF). The QIF provides a complete, digital, persistent, and traceable thread from engineering through interoperable quality workflows like APQP, CMM, and FAI.
Join us to see end-to-end workflows and how model-based charcteristic accountability is returning the promised value of MBD.
Meet the Speakers
- Mike Werkheiser, Director of Model-Based Engineering, Belcan: Mike Werkheiser has over 25 years of experience in the aerospace and defense industry. Mike joined Belcan in 2022 as the Director of Model-Based Engineering (MBE), responsible for MBE strategy, capability development, and delivery of model-based solutions to meet customers’ growing needs in digital transformation. Prior to joining Belcan, he was the Engineering lead for an enterprise-wide Model Based Definition (MBD), Manufacturing (MBM), and Inspection (MBI) initiative at Pratt and Whitney. Mike led the engineering approach in this initiative from a grassroots campaign, through exploratory pilots, all the way into scaled program deployment. Mike is a demonstrated implementer, with broad and deep experience integrating the impacts of digital transformation over time and across people, processes, and tools. He has an unwavering focus on trusted data, new technology adoption, empowered teams, customer centricity, and agile processes.
- Brian McTigue, Senior Model Based Engineer, Belcan: Brian McTigue is a Senior Model-Based Engineer at Belcan, where he partners with organizations to develop and implement Digital Thread strategies that enhance efficiency and reduce costs across the product lifecycle. He has deep expertise in Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and specializes in the Dassault Systèmes suite, enabling integration across Model-Based Definition (MBD), Manufacturing (MBM), and Inspection (MBI). However, Brian takes a tool-agnostic approach, leveraging a variety of digital platforms to tailor solutions that meet each client’s unique technical and operational needs. Prior to Belcan, he served as a Digital Twin Project Lead at the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR), where he led key initiatives with the U.S. Department of Defense to build scalable Digital Twin frameworks for complex aerospace systems.
