Mixed Reality uses in Production, Design, and Analysis
Virtual and Augmented reality technology is becoming more available than ever before. With major advancements in software and hardware. We will look at some of the key places Mixed Reality can play a critical role in helping develop and build the products of today and tomorrow.
Part 1
Virtual Reality has been in use within the design-focused groups for many years. Focusing mainly on geometry visualization to walk through the basic task of validating Fit, Form, and Function. Today the technology is being used across the board from Industrial Design to Manufacturing Planning to training. Helping companies make correct decisions faster, while reducing overages. We will explore three example of Virtual Reality uses in today’s world. First being, Design and Manufacturing Planning. Ensuring our production area is setup correctly and our workflows are optimized before the space is even allocated. Second, we will look at Manufacturing Validation. Assessing all element of a production area to ensure a group of people are able to perform their task correctly. Lastly, we will look at how to use Virtual Reality in training, decreasing the time it takes to train someone, while keeping production lines safely running.
Part 2
Many companies have envisioned Augmented Reality to be a disruptive technology. Replacing paper instruction and connecting their workers to their digital world. With Augmented Reality technology having come a long way in the past 5 years, with many hardware increases just on the horizon, this is truly going to have an effect on our experience. We will look at the technology as a whole, where it is today and what kind of tasks can benefit from this Technology. First we will look at the hardware, with wearables and tablets becoming more powerful and available. Second we will look at the software, looking at 2D marker tracking and what it takes to do 3D marker tracking as well as 3D model tracking. Lastly, we will close with remarks about where this technology is today in the workplace, and where it is going.
